Nicki Minaj has been swatted yet again, with the perpetrator of the crime alleging to law enforcement that the head Barb had been the victim of a shooting.
TMZ revealed that the rapper’s San Fernando Valley, CA home was targeted for the attack on Saturday (July 29). According to the outlet, law enforcement officials pulled up to the home with lights flashing and an ambulance on the ready after the anonymous caller claimed that Minaj had been shot.
When law enforcement spoke to the “Starships” rapper after they’d pulled up, Minaj was reportedly none-too-pleased that they’d been called, yet again, for no good reason.
As of this writing, a perpetrator hasn’t been arrested for the fraudulent call.
Celebrities like Minaj, Justin Bieber, and Ashton Kutcher are just a few who have been targeted by the crime. California law, however, has only made swatting a misdemeanor.
“Any individual who reports, or causes any report to be made, to any city, county, city and county, or state department, district, agency, division, commission, or board, that an ’emergency’ exists, knowing that the report is false, is guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable by imprisonment in a county jail for a period not exceeding one year, or by a fine not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both that imprisonment and fine,” reads the California law on swatting, which was passed in 2014.
If, however, the swatting results in grave bodily inury or death, it becomes a felony, according to the same law.j
This latest prank call isn’t the first time that Nicki Minaj has been the target of swatting. Last month, law enforcement officials in Los Angeles received two separate 911 calls — one reporting that the “Starships” rapper’s son, known as “Papa Bear,” was being abused, and another claiming that Minaj was stuck in a house fire.
However, when first responders arrived at the scene, they found nothing to substantiate the claims that came through the switchboard.
“Sources close to Nicki tell us she’s not letting this little episode slide,” TMZ reported. “We’re told she’s hired lawyers to make sure the people behind this swatting are exposed and held accountable — which could mean criminal charges down the road.”
Meanwhile, back in 2017, she was the victim of a burglary as her Los Angeles home was broken into while she was out of town.
The mansion was trashed after the culprit flipped over furniture, smashed perfume bottles and even cut up Nicki’s clothes. The burglar (or burglars) made off with about $200,000 in jewelry and other items, the report said.
BLACKPINK singer Jennie has shared more about her upcoming debut solo album in a new teaser clip.
In a new unlisted video titled ‘Goodbye, Hello’ that was posted on Christmas Day, BLACKPINK’s Jennie greeted fans with a recap of her 2024 and a mini interview-style clip.
In the clip, the singer teased details about her upcoming debut album. “My album is going to sound very different. My next single is going to sound very different from ‘Mantra’, I feel like every step is going to be different,” she said.
She also spoke about the making of the upcoming record, sharing that it took 11 months for her to believe it was ready. “I’ve never done this before, and people assume that this has been in my life. Which is kind of true, but I’ve never really done it on my own. I’ve always had the girls by my side,” she added, nodding to her BLACKPINK bandmates.
She went on to discuss more specific details about the record, leaving its song titles and names of featuring artists censored. Jennie described her favourite song on the album as one she put her “soul” into, and teased collaborations with at least two of her “dream artists”.
“My hope with my album is that the world gets to see Jennie and her music as it is. Like, I wouldn’t even be mad if you hate it,” she added with a laugh. “There’s a little bit of everything for everyone. It’s like a buffet for you guys.”
Finally, Jennie shared her hopes and expectations for the coming year, calling it a “little seed” in her life. “A new era for me. It’s finally, finally time for me to show what I’ve been working on and what I’ve been holding onto, and just really let it out,” she said.
In other K-pop news, girl group IVE have dropped a teaser clip announcing their return with a new single in January 2025.
