Watch The Specials’ Lynval Golding’s message for No Doubt before they took to the stage at Coachella 2024

The Specials‘ Lynval Golding delivered a speech about No Doubt backstage at Coachella 2024 ahead of the band’s reunion show at the festival – watch it below.

The group played their first live gig since 2015 at the Indio, California event last Saturday (April 13), where they brought out Olivia Rodrigo to perform ‘Bathwater’ alongside frontwoman Gwen Stefani.

Prior to the career-spanning, 16-song set, Golding gave an encouraging message to the camera about Stefani and co’s long-awaited return. “I can tell you one thing, right,” the musician began. “I know exactly how they’re feeling right now.”

He continued by explaining that it had previously taken him five years to get The Specials back together, adding: “And my God, what an emotional time that was. When we hit the stage that first night, it was incredible.

“So I know when these guys go on the tears are gonna be falling through happiness and joy and love. And I just wish them so well – it’s gonna be a killer night. The guys… wow! What can I say? So pleased to be here tonight celebrating with them.”

Golding signed off by sending his “love and respect” to No Doubt – whose material blends ska with rock, punk, reggae and pop. The clip goes on to show the band making their way from the backstage area to the Coachella main stage.

In the caption, they wrote: “Our first gig together in 9 years! Legend @lynvalgolding of @thespecials shares some profound and heartfelt words before we hit the stage at @coachella Weekend One.” See the post above.

Last October, No Doubt members Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont and Adrian Young performed as part of a tribute show for the late Specials frontman Terry Hall. The concert, which was held in Los Angeles, also featured appearances from Golding and Specials bassist Horace Panter.

No Doubt are scheduled to return to the desert this Saturday (April 20) for weekend two of Coachella 2024.

The band have not yet announced any further live dates, but Stefani recently said she was “open to anything”.

“Well, I don’t have a crystal ball,” she explained. “Most things have surprised me in life. One of the things I’ve learned is to be present in the moment and try to absorb what’s happening around me instead of looking ahead.”

  • A BOOGIE WIT DA HOODIE’S UK CONCERT ABORTED JUST MINUTES AFTER DOORS OPEN

A BOOGIE WIT DA HOODIE’S UK CONCERT ABORTED JUST MINUTES AFTER DOORS OPEN

MANCHESTER, UK - A Boogie Wit da Hoodie has seen his concert in Manchester, England canceled after doors had already opened.

The Bronx rapper was due to perform at Co-Op Live, a brand new indoor arena, on Wednesday night (May 1) but the plug was pulled as he was preparing to hit the stage and some fans were still lining up outside.

The cancelation was put down to a “venue-related technical issue” and nothing to do with A Boogie, who became the third act to suffer a postponement at the yet-to-open venue following comedian Peter Kay and rock band The Black Keys.

Co-Op Live announced around 10 minutes after doors had opened that the concert would longer go ahead due to technical problems inside the venue itself apparently related to air-conditioning.

“We kindly ask fans to leave the area. Ticket holders will receive further information in due course,” they wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “We deeply apologise for the significant inconvenience this will cause for many.”

In an Instagram Story after the last-minute cancelation was announced, A Boogie said the issues were down to “something [that] happened with the venue while I was at soundcheck.”

“We are working on rescheduling in the next few days,” he added. “I’m heated about the situation too, but safety first. Manchester, I got you. Just stay tuned for further info.”

It is not currently known when the Manchester date will be rescheduled.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie has already encountered issues on his European tour following a violent incident in Paris.

The rapper and several members of his entourage got involved in an altercation outside a nightclub in the French capital earlier this week, leading to them being pepper sprayed by security.

In a video of the incident, the 28-year-old can be seen getting into a tense exchange with a bouncer before things escalate.

Soon after the clip of the brawl began making the rounds online, A Boogie wrote on social media: “N-ggas only got outta there cus they mased us! Never runnin from a n-gga.”

In a follow-up post, he added: “Lmao fuck I look like playin with mase n-ggas can’t fight.”

A Boogie and his entourage did not appear to suffer any legal ramifications from the incident given no arrests have so far been made and they left the country to fly to the UK to continue the tour.
