Diddy Allegedly Threatened To Cut J. Cole's Throat During Fight Over Kendrick Lamar

Diddy allegedly threatened to slash J. Cole‘s throat when the two got into a fight over a decade ago over Kendrick Lamar‘s “Control” verse.

Appearing on Tank and J. Valentine‘s R&B Money podcast, Top Dawg Entertainment president Terrence “Punch” Henderson shared his recollection of the scuffle, which took place at an afterparty in NYC following the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.

Without naming names, Punch detailed the story of Cole and Diddy getting into it at the exclusive party in front of a who’s who of famous musicians and movie stars.

“The homie just did this song, right? Pissed a gang of people off, everybody was mad at it,” Punch began. “When the song came out, he was overseas, then he came back to the States.

“First place we stopped in was New York City and the first thing we do is say, ‘Let’s go to the club’ because we want to check the temperature, see what everybody was on — L.A. stuff.”

Punch continued: “We get to the club. One of the homies approached us and [was] talking about this particular record. So we’re going back and forth: ‘Oh, it’s not personal. It’s just this, this and that. It’s cool, whatever, whatever.’

“Another one of the homies walk up, he looked drunk [and] said, ‘Yeah, y’all n-ggas need to go back and forth and keep it on wax or whatever.’ So the two dudes who approached [us], they get into a little back and forth, a little argument with each other now. What we didn’t know is they had got into an argument before we got there.”

The TDE executive explained that he and his crew then went to the VIP section of the club which was packed with celebrities, describing it as “literally the front row of the Grammys.”

“The homie that got into it with the other one, he’s sitting two steps down from me on the couch. Then they came back to him, the ones who got into an alteration earlier,” he continued, referring to J. Cole and Diddy.

“He was like, ‘If you ever say what you said to me earlier, n-gga, I’ll –.’ And he grabbed a bottle from the table and he said, ‘What you gon’ do? Hit me on my head with a bottle?’ He was like, ‘Nah, I’m gonna break it on the table and I’m gonna cut your throat.’

“It was getting tense. So the n-gga standing on the ground reached up and tried to grab dude by the neck. So dude reached around and fired on him and they both fell on the table, knocking all the drinks over. It’s a scuffle now, a huge scuffle.”

Punch then said that someone else jumped into the fight and began unknowingly beating up an artist who was signed to their friend’s label.

“Another n-gga came who’s best friends with one of the super celebrities that was over there. He came and started beating up one of the n-ggas that was on the ground,” he recalled.

“He grabbed the n-gga and pulled him close and seen who it was, and this dude was signed to his homie. But he couldn’t see, he didn’t have his glasses on. He felt so bad after the whole thing … He thought they was going at his mans.”

Punch previously spoke about the brawl on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion, albeit with names.

“[JAY-Z] and Puff is doing the dinner that they usually do,” he said. “Puff and Cole was talking about the verse and they ended up getting into a little back and forth. When we come in, Cole and Kendrick was talking about the verse.

“Then Puff came back over and their argument sparked up again. So from there, they ended up getting into the whole scuffle in the club.”

The TDE president then described JAY-Z’s close friend Emory Jones as the “winner” of the fight: “Emory thought somebody was jumping on Jay so he rushed over there and he got into the middle of the thing. He ended up grabbing Cole like, ‘Oh, it’s Cole!'”

SOPHIE paid tribute by Google Doodle on her birthday

SOPHIE has been paid tribute by Google Doodle to coincide with what would’ve been her birthday today (September 17).

The hyperpop pioneer and PC Music affiliate (full name Sophie Xeon) tragically passed away on January 30, 2021 aged 34 following her accidental fall from a three storey building in Athens.

Now, the musician has been honoured by Google Doodle with a short video for her 38th birthday. Soundtracked by ‘Immaterial’, taken from her debut album ‘Oil Of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides‘, the clip depicts various portraits of SOPHIE and her Monomachine, the synthesiser she used to make her inimitable and evocative sounds from.

In the caption for the video, Google wrote: “This video Doodle celebrates the birthday of Scottish musician, producer, and DJ Sophie Xeon, who is remembered for her acclaimed experimental pop and electronic music.”

Take a look at the video below:

Recently, the eponymous posthumous album for the producer was announced in June this year. It will be released September 27 via Transgressive Records and Future Classic, with the help of her brother and long-time studio manager Benny Long.

Speaking about the forthcoming album in a statement, SOPHIE’s family wrote: “When we, Sophie’s family, took our first steps towards bringing this project to fruition we contacted the dear friends with whom she envisioned the album. We wrote, ‘We have been finding comfort in the music Sophie left us, it is a gift that we truly cherish as we try to find a way forward, with Sophie forever at the centre of our worlds’.

“Sophie didn’t often speak publicly of her private life, preferring to put everything she wanted to articulate in her music. It feels only right to share with the world the music she hoped to release, in the belief that we can all connect with her in this, the form she loved most.”

The statement concluded: “Sophie gave all of herself to her music. It’s here that she can always be found.”

So far, four singles from the record have been previewed, including ‘Reason Why (ft. Kim Petras)’, ‘Berlin Nightmare (ft. Evita Manji)’, ‘One More Time‘ and ‘Exhilarate (ft. Bibi Bourelly)’.

In other news, Sade will release her first new music in years as part of new transgender awareness compilation project alongside a SOPHIE cover courtesy of Moses Sumney.
