Liam Gallagher has won a PETA Award after adopting a homeless dog and raising thousands for the animal charity in Thailand that made it possible, NME can exclusively reveal.
The Britpop legend adopted a dog called Buttons from a sanctuary in Thailand last year, after she was abandoned in the jungle for “not being cute enough” by her former owners.
Gallagher found Buttons through the Thailand-based Happy Doggo sanctuary, and earlier this year the charity’s founder Niall Harbison discussed his shock when he found Gallagher’s name among the applications. Buttons flew nearly 6,000 miles (9,500km) to her new home in the UK.
Shortly after adopting her, the Oasis frontman revealed that the new addition to the family had left him no longer wanting to go on tour – as he’d rather stay home with her – and he then helped to raise £25,000 to help other dogs in Thailand.
Harbison made the announcement on X/Twitter, and shared that the efforts made by Gallagher “proves not all is bad in the world”. The charity looks to save 1,000 dogs per month.
Now, in light of his charity work and the awareness he has raised by adopting Buttons, Liam Gallagher has been granted PETA’s prestigious ‘Strike the Right Chord for Animals Award’.
The organisation reports that the award comes as animal shelters across the UK have been reporting spiking numbers of animal abandonment cases and homeless cats and dogs, and more famous faces choosing to buy pedigrees rather than adopt.
“Let there be love for this lovely pup and Liam, whose compassionate act for animals sets a wonderful example for his legions of fans,” said PETA Vice President of Programmes Elisa Allen. “PETA is delighted to recognise him for opening his heart and home to a dog who desperately needed a loving family, and PETA urges everyone to follow suit and adopt, never shop.”
Gallagher has also responded to the award, and said: “Thanks for the Award. Rescuing Buttons has been the best decision we’ve ever made. She brings so much happiness to our lives and everyone she meets.
“We’re so lucky to have her,” he added. “We’re obsessed. I thoroughly recommend adopting a homeless dog.”
The singer and songwriter will receive a heartfelt letter of thanks from PETA for his efforts, as well as a framed certificate.
In other Liam Gallagher news, at the end of the summer Oasis announced news of their highly-awaited return to the stage, confirming a string of huge stadium gigs in the UK and Ireland to take place next summer. That was then followed by the announcement of dates in North America, South America, Australia, South Korea and Japan.
Following the revelation that they’d be returning, Oasis ruled out a headline performance at Glastonbury 2025 and said they won’t be appearing at any other festivals next summer. Liam and Noel have also shot down rumours of a return to Knebworth in 2026 too.
The band have announced that Cage The Elephant will be serving as opening support on their North American leg while former Verve frontman and soloist Richard Ashcroft and Cast will be joining the Mancunian icons on their UK and Ireland dates.
Liam recently went back on his claims that the band are currently recording a new album, telling fans “It was a laugh”.

Usher, one of R&B's greatest showmen, might have just gotten shown up by a special guest at his recent concert. Instead, she got really sexual and raunchy with it before giving him a little booty shaking show.
He was left quite surprised, with his facial reaction on the big screen at the venue in a hilarious moment. Well, yesterday at the Kaseya Center was no different, but this time a celebrity was in the stands. Rubi Rose, model, entrepreneur, and rapper, made her way out to support Usher. He's got a history of tracking down women like her and creating viral memories, and trust us, they managed to make one.
Instead of two cherries, the star attraction dangled one in front of Rubi's face. She began to lick it (again a suggestive manner), but she stopped. Instead of going it alone, she called on a friend that was with her, and they both did their thing on it right in front of Usher. As you can see in the video above, his reaction was utterly priceless with the crowd laughing at his facial expression. Rubi wound up sharing the video on her Twitter, captioning the post, "When u shy but a real eater."
