JAY-Z’s Relationship With NFL Unchanged After Rape Allegation, Roger Goodell Says

JAY-Z‘s long-standing relationship with the NFL is currently unaffected in the wake of the sexual assault lawsuit against him, so says NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Goodell made a statement following the league’s winter meetings on Wednesday (December 11), affirming Hov and Roc Nation will continue to oversee the annual halftime show, as well as the NFL’s social justice initiatives.

“We’re aware of the civil allegations and JAY-Z’s really strong response to that,” Goodell said. “We know the litigation is happening now so from our standpoint, our relationship is not changing with them, including our preparations for the next Super Bowl.”

“I think they’re getting incredibly comfortable with not just the Super Bowl but other events they’ve advised us on and helped us with,” he added. “They’ve been a big help in the social justice area to us on many occasions. They’ve been great partners.”

In a lawsuit filed by high-profile lawyer Tony Buzbee on behalf of an anonymous client, Hov is accused of sexually assaulting the teenager at an afterparty following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

The lawsuit was originally filed in October with Diddy as a defendant and JAY-Z referred to anonymously as “Celebrity A.”

The suit was refiled on Sunday (December 8) and named Jay (born Shawn Carter) as a defendant, according to court documents viewed by HipHopDX.

The alleged victim claims that she was invited to an afterparty by one of Diddy’s drivers after being told she “fit what Diddy was looking for.”

After being dropped off at “a large white residence with a gated U-shaped driveway,” the girl was allegedly given a drink that soon made her “feel woozy and lightheaded, making her need to lie down.”

She claims that she found an empty bedroom to lie down in and later awoke to Diddy and JAY-Z entering the room along with an unnamed female celebrity.

JAY-Z then allegedly removed her clothes and held her down as he raped her while Diddy and the unidentified woman watched.

The suit claims that Diddy then raped the girl as Jay and the woman watched.

The girl eventually managed to escape by “hitting [Diddy] in the neck” when he tried to force her to perform oral sex on him, fleeing the party and reaching a nearby gas station where she was picked up by her father, according to the filing.

In a rare public statement issued by Roc Nation, JAY-Z blasted the allegations as well as Buzbee, who he called a “fraud” and claimed had tried to “blackmail” him.

“These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?” the rap legend wrote.

“These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case.”

The statement also mentioned the impact that the lawsuit would have on Jay’s notoriously private family life: “My only heartbreak is for my family. My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence.”

Hov further slammed Buzbee’s legal conduct by saying: “My heart and support goes out to true victims in the world, who have to watch how their life story is dressed in costume for profitability by this ambulance chaser in a cheap suit.”

GloRilla’s ‘TGIF’ Named Best Song Of The Year By ‘Time’: ‘It’s A Display Of Power’

GloRilla‘s hit single “TGIF” has been crowned ‘Best Song of the Year’ by TIME in their annual year-end list.

Published on Monday (December 9), the publication noted that the songs “were selected with our list of the 10 Best Albums of 2024 in mind, so to showcase a greater range of music, no artists appear on both.”

Among songs like Beyoncé‘s “Riiverdance,” Kendrick Lamar‘s “Not Like Us” and Kehlani‘s “After Hours,” Big Glo holds down the top spot for her single-ladies anthem.

“For GloRilla, being single is a supernatural experience,” reporter and critic Stephen Kearse writes of the track. “When the Memphis rapper isn’t in a relationship, she’s not just free from headaches and responsibilities; she’s powered up, unstoppable, glowing. She spends ‘TGIF’ toasting to this enhanced state over seismic bass kicks and a cinematic horn loop that brings to mind Godzilla ascending from the Pacific.

“Her bullish delivery elevates her mundane boasts — feeling good, looking ‘fine as hell, ‘ sporting a fresh mani-pedi — into titanic flexes. This ode to Friday clubbing isn’t self-empowering: It’s a display of power.”

Rihanna is famously a huge fan of the song as well, helping launch it to viral status over the summer when she made a video to it.

As Rih lip-synced and got down to the hook “It’s 7 p.m. Friday/ It’s ninety-five degrees/ I ain’t got no n-gga and no n-gga ain’t got me,” the camera panned to A$AP Rocky.

Confused and amused by his partner’s energy, he hilariously responded by saying: “Where my drink at, man? I’m too old for this shit.”

GloRilla’s banner year has her topping multiple year-end lists, and Billboard recently named the Memphis native as the hottest female rapper in the game for 2024.

Noting that she suffered a bit of a sophomore slump in 2023 after singles like the Fivio Foreign-assisted “Cha Cha” failed to hit like her breakout songs “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” and “Tomorrow 2” the year prior, Billboard highlights how she “made a triumphant comeback and reclaimed her mojo when she struck gold with ‘Yeah Glo!’ at the top of 2024.”

“The swaggering track zoomed into the top 30 of the Hot 100 and showcased her resiliency as a rapper who refuses to buckle under pressure,” journalist Carl Lamarre writes. “Her torrid streak continued with the top 15 Hot 100 record ‘Wanna Be’ featuring Megan Thee Stallion and the summer hit ‘TGIF.’”

Lamarre continued: “Everyone felt GloRilla’s momentum, as pop behemoths Rihanna and Taylor Swift applauded her efforts, saluting her as rap’s newest ‘IT’ girl of the moment. Kamala Harris even phoned her up at the tail-end of her campaign to win over youth voters during her run against Trump.

“The proverbial cherry on top came when GloRilla netted the highest opening week in 2024 for a female rapper, when her debut album GLORIOUS entered at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 with 69,000 album-equivalent units – doubling the release of her spring mixtape Ehhthang Ehhthang.”
