Kendrick Lamar Trolls Drake With Canadian Tuxedo Outfit As "Not Like Us" Sweeps Grammys

Kendrick Lamar appeared to troll Drake at the Grammy Awards with his outfit choice for the event. He rocked a Maison Margiela denim jacket and matching jeans with a denim hat, channeling what is known as a 'Canadian Tuxedo.' In doing so, he took home several awards for his Drake diss track, "Not Like Us." The song notched him Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Music Video.

Diana Ross was on stage to present him the Song of the Year honor. Lamar said to the crowd: "This is what it’s about, man, because, at the end of the day, nothing more powerful than rap music. I don’t care what it is. We are the culture. It’s gon’ always stay here and live forever. And, to the young artists, like my man [Terrence ‘Punch’ Henderson] say, I just hope you respect the art form. That’s all. Respect the art form, and get you where you need to go. All right, salute. I appreciate y’all; love y’all.”

He also dedicated his wins to his hometown of Compton. "My mom and pop out there doing front flips on the couch right now. My son is six years old. Go to sleep, it’s past your bedtime right now," he said on stage. At another point, he brought up the recent wildfires impacting Los Angeles. “I can’t give enough thanks, you know, to these places that I rolled around since high school, you know. Most importantly, the people and the families out in the Palisades and Altadena," he said.

Drake has not commented on Kendrick Lamar's success at the Grammys but his father, Dennis Graham, reacted to the wins in a video circulating on social media. When asked about the results, he remarked: “I don’t care about none of that sh*t. That got nothing to do with me. All the best to him. I don’t do that bullsh*t.”

Nation of Language Sign to Sub Pop, Announce Tour, and Share New Video: Watch

image

Nation of Language have a new label home. The Brooklyn trio of Ian Richard Devaney, Aidan Noell, and Alex MacKay have signed to Sub Pop and shared their debut single for the renowned Seattle indie label. “Inept Apollo” is accompanied by a music video directed by John MacKay. Watch it below, and keep an eye out for a brief cameo from the Sub Pop logo.

“It is an homage to creative pursuits, and in some ways came to represent the feeling of living in a city as an artist,” Devaney said of MacKay’s clip in a press statement. “The video feels like walking through an old warehouse in Brooklyn, full of practice spaces and studios, each room occupied by artists striving to express and understand themselves and their place in the world.”

After supporting Death Cab for Cutie at the Seattle and Chicago stops of their Plans 20th Anniversary Tour, Nation of Language will embark on an extensive headlining tour of North America, the U.K., and Europe. The run of shows extends from August 21 through November 28 and includes a three-night stand at Warsaw in Brooklyn, New York. Scroll down to see all of the band’s announced 2025 dates.
