Twenty One Pilots announce new album ‘Breach’: “Let’s finish this”

Twenty One Pilots have announced their eighth studio album, ‘Breach’. Find all the details below.

The Ohio duo – comprising Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun – announced on social media today (May 21) that the follow-up to 2024’s ‘Clancy’ would be arriving this September. However, they stopped short of giving an exact date.

They are set to preview the forthcoming record on June 12, when they’ll share its first single ‘The Contract’.

The caption also referred to two previous Twenty One Pilots LPs, with the band writing: “Hello Clancy, hello Blurryface. Let’s finish this.”

Therefore, it appears that the forthcoming project will be adding to the lore that began with the duo’s 2015 fourth album ‘Blurryface’, and continued with their seventh full-length ‘Clancy’.

Additionally, Twenty One Pilots have shared the official artwork for ‘Breach’ – which sees them sporting a similar look to that on the ‘Clancy’ cover. Check it out here:

As Folio Weekly noted previously, frontman Joseph “embodies a character named Blurryface who is meant to represent his insecurities and depression” on TOP’s previous album.

“Joseph is seen with black paint on his neck and hands throughout multiple music videos, which is his visual embodiment of Blurryface. Each time fans see this paint, they know it is in connection with the lore,” it adds.

The announcement quote “let’s finish this” suggests that the lore is set to end with ‘Breach’. In the closing moments of ‘Paladin Strait’ – the final track on last year’s Clancy’ – fans hear the last words: “Hello, Clancy.”

News of the record comes after TOP took to social media to celebrate the 10th anniversary of ‘Blurryface’. “We’ll see what’s next,” they teased on one post this week. See it above.

Back in 2019, ‘Blurryface’ was named the biggest-selling rock album of the decade. The LP made history as the first album to achieve RIAA Gold or Platinum certification for every track. It remains one of the most-streamed albums in the world, having accumulated over 15billion plays.

‘Clancy’, meanwhile, peaked at Number Two in the UK. At the time of release, the record was believed to conclude the lore that had been in the band’s material for the past decade.

In a three-star reviewNME wrote: “The record fares better when it shoots for genuine experimentation, like on the weird, spacey ‘Lavish’; otherwise, ‘Clancy’ is more often than not the sound of a band spinning their wheels, caught in a strange space where their colourful conceptual ideas are being painted from a beige musical palette.”

Last week saw Twenty One Pilots wrap up their huge ‘Clancy’ world tour with two shows at The O2 in London. Earlier on the trek, fans teamed up to find a drum that had been stolen from the group at the end of their gig in Manchester.

In late 2024, Twenty One Pilots released a new track called ‘The Line’ from the Arcane soundtrack.
