Taylor Swift addresses rumors about the Super Bowl Halftime Show

Taylor Swift has cleared up the speculation about why she won’t be taking the stage at the next Super Bowl Halftime Show.

The Cruel Summer singer had long been rumored to headline the 2026 Halftime Show in February, so fans were caught off guard when Bad Bunny was announced as the performer last week.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday night, Jimmy asked Taylor to respond to claims that she “turned down the Super Bowl because of performance footage.”

The 35-year-old laughed and said, “No,” before explaining the real story. “Here’s the thing. Jay-Z has always been incredibly kind to me. Our teams are very close. Sometimes they’ll reach out and ask, ‘How does she feel about the Super Bowl?’ but that’s not an official offer or a formal discussion... We’re always honest with him, and the truth is that I’m in love with a man who plays that sport on that very field.”

The pop icon, who is engaged to NFL star Travis Kelce, compared the game to “violent chess” and admitted that she’s too emotionally invested in his season to also prepare for a major halftime performance.

“Can you imagine if he’s out there every single week risking everything, playing this extremely intense, high-pressure sport, and I’m sitting there like, ‘Hmm, what should my choreography be? Maybe two verses of Shake It Off into Blank Space and then Cruel Summer?’” Taylor joked.

She added, “This has nothing to do with Travis; he’d love for me to do it. I’m just too focused.”

Taylor and Travis announced their engagement in August after two years together.

The 2026 Super Bowl is scheduled to take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on February 8.

Taylor Swift won’t return to the road soon, saying “I am so tired”

Maybe the 149 Eras Tour shows in 51 cities across a year and a half were enough for now. In a new interview with BBC Radio 1 following the release of The Life of a Showgirl on Friday, Taylor Swift said she plans to take a break from touring for a bit.

When asked by the host if she had the “itch” to be on the road again, Swift’s response was… swift. “No,” she said. “I’m gonna be really honest with you. Like, I am so tired, when I think about doing it again,” Swift explained. “Because I would want to do it really, really well again.”

During the interview, Swift shared that she was feeling happy with life right now, joking that her “joints are good” and that she finally has time for hobbies.

“I could only do the Eras Tour when I was on the Eras Tour and that’s two years of having no other hobbies. And now I have the hobbies again…and making it everybody’s problem,” she said, joking about making the host a loaf of sourdough bread.

Swift also reflected on how big her Eras Tour had become and the impact she felt from bringing it to the world. “For me, it feels like such an honor that the fans made it into what it was, because it was truly astonishing for all of us who were on that tour,” Swift said. “We were like, what is going on? It turned into something very quickly that we, that exceeded any of our expectations for what the tour could have been.”

Swift wrapped her Eras Tour last December in Vancouver after playing 149 shows since March 2023, dropping The Tortured Poets Department in the process. On Friday, the singer released her album The Life of a Showgirl, inspired by the behind-the-scenes post-Eras show moments.
