Demi Lovato gives Lady Gaga’s Mayhem a Live Lounge twist

image

Demi Lovato delivered a mashup of two songs from Lady Gaga’s Mayhem during her appearance on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge.

The Live Lounge has a long-standing tradition of inviting artists to perform covers of other musicians’ songs, but Lovato raised the bar by blending “Disease” and “Perfect Celebrity” from Mayhem into one smooth and striking performance.

The mashup arrived just two days before Lovato releases her newest album It’s Not That Deep, which comes out this Friday. She previously gave fans a glimpse of the project with the singles “Fast” and “Here All Night,” two vibrant, dance-ready tracks that embrace joy over introspection. “So proud of all the work I’ve done,” she wrote on Instagram. “And now, it’s time to celebrate and have some fun!!!”

“When I got back in the studio this time around, those songs just weren’t resonating anymore because I’m not in that place in life. I’m happy, I’m in love, and I just want to enjoy life and have fun. I realized it’s not that deep anymore, and that became the ethos for this album,” Lovato said in a statement announcing her eighth studio record.

“With my past eras, I often wrote cathartic music about heavy topics that I needed to process,” she explained. “It’s Not That Deep is meant for late nights and dancefloors, and I can’t wait for you all to dance with me.”

Rapper and actor Ghetts has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident.

The Supacell star, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, has been accused of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

According to London’s Metropolitan Police, the 41-year-old artist is alleged to have failed to stop after hitting a 20-year-old man on Redbridge Lane East in Ilford, East London, on Saturday 18 October.

The British grime performer appeared at Stratford Magistrates' Court on Monday and was remanded in custody ahead of his next scheduled appearance at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Monday 27 October.

The victim passed away in hospital on Monday, and prosecutors are expected to upgrade the charge against Clarke-Samuel from causing serious injury to causing death by dangerous driving during the upcoming court hearing.

BBC News reports that police are appealing for any witnesses who may have information about the incident to come forward.

Ghetts, who performed at Glastonbury last year, has released five albums and collaborated with major artists such as Ed Sheeran, Stormzy and Skepta during his career.

In 2024, he earned a Mercury Prize nomination for his album On Purpose, with Purpose and also appeared in the Netflix superhero series Supacell in a supporting role.
