Dave Mustaine reportedly reworks a Metallica song he wrote on Megadeth’s final LP

Dave Mustaine appears to have revisited a Metallica song he originally wrote for inclusion on Megadeth’s upcoming and final album.

Earlier this year, the frontman revealed that their new record — now confirmed to be self-titled and due out in 2026 — would feature a cover of a track he wrote himself.

Fans recently noticed that one of the faintly visible song titles in a new Instagram animation teasing the tracklist seems to read Ride The Lightning, one of two songs Mustaine co-wrote for Metallica’s 1984 album of the same name, alongside The Call of Ktulu.

Speaking to Norwegian radio station Stjernepose in June, Mustaine shared, “We have 13 new songs for the new album… One of the songs is a cover song, but I actually wrote it, so it’s kind of like a cover, kind of like my song.”

Before forming Megadeth, Mustaine was Metallica’s lead guitarist but was dismissed from the group prior to the release of their 1983 debut album.

He has often claimed that he wrote “a lot of” the music that helped define Metallica’s early sound.

The 63-year-old musician admitted he was “p***** off” after the band allegedly went ahead and used his riffs, despite him telling them not to.

When asked if his drinking was the reason behind his firing, Mustaine told The Shawn Ryan Show earlier this year, “We all drank. That’s why they called it Alcoholica. I mean, they didn’t call it Dave-Alcoholica. We all drank. And they continued to drink like that even after I was gone. But that was, I think, the beginning of the end.”

Mustaine said he had left Metallica with a tape containing his riffs.

“Just me playing and playing and playing… We took that tape player and the reel of tape with us out to New York,” he recalled. “We did two shows out there, and after those two shows, they woke me up one morning and said, ‘Look, you’re out of the band.’ And I said, ‘What are you talking about?’ ‘You’re out of the band.’ I said, ‘No warning? No second chance? You’re not gonna give me a warning? You’re just gonna kick me out?’ And I thought that was unfair. It showed a grotesque lack of character. And so that p***** me off and was a huge part of the fuel. But at the time, I was really mad and I didn’t wanna forgive them for what they did. And I told them when I left, ‘Do not use my music.’ And of course, they used it.”

Mustaine has said that several Metallica songs — including Ride The Lightning, The Call of Ktulu, Phantom Lord, Metal Militia, Jump in the Fire, and The Four Horsemen — feature his riffs.

He added, “And I wrote a bunch of Leper Messiah [on Metallica’s third album, Master Of Puppets] too. They didn’t give me credit on that. You listen to the riffs, you know they’re my riffs. It’s like, you think I’m gonna all of a sudden hear my riff and say, ‘That’s not me.’ So, yeah, I wrote a lot of their music that made them, and all the solos on that first record were mine — the best Kirk [Hammett, Mustaine’s replacement] could try and copy them.”

Megadeth have so far released Tipping Point, the lead single from their final album.

The band will also embark on a farewell tour, with full dates yet to be announced.

The follow-up to 2022’s The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead! is scheduled for release on January 23.

A$AP Rocky Sparks Talk of Secret Wedding After ‘Loving Husband’ Comment

A$AP Rocky has referred to himself as a “loving husband,” adding more fuel to the ongoing speculation about his marriage to Rihanna.

In an interview with Perfect Magazine, the rapper opened up about his family life with Rihanna and their three children. When asked what brings him the most happiness, he made it clear that his family always comes first.

Seemingly confirming marriage rumors, A$AP said, “Being a father, a partner, and a loving husband in my family is what truly makes me happy.”

He went on to add, “What really drives me is being creative, being a family man, and being an artist.”

A$AP shares three children with the Diamonds singer: sons RZA, who is three, and Riot, who is two, along with their newborn daughter, Rocki Irish, who was born in September.

Just last month, the 37-year-old artist stirred speculation once again when he teased during an interview with Elle, “How do you know I’m not already a husband?”

However, he stopped short of confirming their relationship status, adding, “I’m still not going to confirm it.”

This isn’t the first time A$AP has hinted that he and Rihanna might already be married.

Back in June 2023, he dedicated a song to his “beautiful wife” during a live performance at the Cannes Lions festival.

A$AP has always been open about how much his family means to him.

In September, he told GQ that Rihanna and their children are the center of his world, saying, “I’ve got nothing but love to give to these little ones. As you can see, most of my heart belongs to my family.”
