The xx Confirm Return Gig After Time Away

The xx have confirmed when they will be stepping back onto the stage for their much anticipated return to live shows.

The London trio are set to reunite this year for their first performances together since 2018, when they finished touring behind their most recent studio album, ‘I See You’ from 2017.

Their first booked appearances of 2026 will see them play Coachella in April. They are also scheduled for festival stops including Kilby Block Party, Primavera Sound Barcelona and Porto, We Love Green, Open’er, Rock Werchter and others.

The xx have now shared that they will play a show the week before Coachella. In a post across social media, they announced that their “first show back in a while” will take place on Saturday April 4.

They encouraged fans to “sign up to be the first to know what’s next”, which you can do here. A full announcement with further details is set to arrive on Monday February 23. See the post below.

Last March, photos surfaced of The xx working together in the studio after Jamie xx mentioned they were “having a good time” creating new material during the summer of 2024. Then in September 2025, they posted rehearsal clips shortly after the Coachella line up was revealed.

“Picking up our instruments again. See you in the desert?” they wrote at the time.

The group also appeared together onstage last summer at the 2025 LIDO Festival in London, where Jamie xx was the headline act.

Since releasing their last album as a band, each member of The xx has focused on solo work. Romy released her debut solo album ‘Mid Air’ in 2023, and toward the end of last year she shared the “proudly queer love song” ‘Love Who You Love’. Oliver Sim put out his first solo record, ‘Hideous Bastard’, in 2022, followed by two songs in 2025 titled ‘Obsession’ and ‘Telephone Games’. Jamie xx released his second solo album ‘In Waves’ in 2024, which included the track ‘Waited All Night’ featuring his bandmates from The xx. He also dropped the single ‘Dream Night’ last July.

Speaking with NME at the BRIT Awards 2024 about new music from The xx, Romy said: “We’re just keeping it really open and we’re up for trying new things, but it sounds like us. That’s all I can say right now.”

She added: “We’ve learned a lot from our different solo projects and it’s cool to learn from each other again. We grew up together and we had a lot of experiences, but to then have time apart and learn new skills, get new musical ideas and experiences and compare them… it’s been a healthy break.”

Elsewhere, The xx recently issued a deluxe version of their 2009 self titled debut album, complete with additional tracks and cover versions.

Nicole Appleton Says Son Gene Gallagher Led Appleton Reunion

Nicole Appleton has shared that her son Gene Gallagher encouraged her to return to Appleton alongside her sister Natalie Appleton.

The pair have just released Falling Into You, their first new single in more than 20 years, and Nicole explained that Gene, 24, who she shares with Oasis star Liam Gallagher, played a big part in their decision to revive the project they originally formed after All Saints split in 2001.

The 51 year old singer told Rolling Stone: "I remember one day Gene said to me, 'Mum, why don't you just go back into the studio with Auntie Nat?'"

Natalie, 52, added: "(Our kids) are our harshest critics and if they didn't think it was a good idea, they would have said, 'Nah!'

"They're massive fans and I think they thought we should've maybe thought more of ourselves and they just gave us that little nudge to give it a go."

The sisters said they are excited for Gene and the rest of their family to watch them perform live during shows this summer.

Natalie said: "I think they're going to be very emotional I think."

Nicole echoed: "They'll shed a tear probably."

The duo also shared that their bond is stronger than ever and that they stay in touch every single day.

Natalie said: "We're loving sisters. Every single day we speak."

Nicole added: "Today, we had to get here early so we could talk before this even started even though we spoke this morning on FaceTime for about an hour too.

"We talk in the car on the way home and then we'll FaceTime when we get home again."

Appleton are now considering working on a new album following the response to Falling Into You, although Natalie admitted they had "no plan" and "no expectations" beyond releasing the single.

She explained: "We just had such an incredible reaction to the single and after that we were like, 'We're going to have to do more.' I mean, there's a few we've been working on."

Natalie also said the new record will feel like a "natural progression" from their 2003 album Everything's Eventual.

She said: "It's just always going to have the same vibe. It will be along the same genre of what we've always done."
