Veteran NYC hip-hop promoter and producer Van Silk addressed a message to his “brother” Kay Slay, which he first sent to HipHopDX. “I’ve known you since you were 15 years old,” said Silk. “We done a lot together — from me helping you with Straight Stuntin magazine as the first editor to how the many DJs we put on during the mixtape era, and now working on the ‘Rolling Deep 200’ project. Brother, I love you and you gotta get well. You know how I was on your back about getting vaccinated.”

NYC radio station Hot 97 sent a message from Kay Slay’s family to the public on its Twitter account. “Legendary #HOT97 @djkayslay’s family sends their appreciation for the outpouring of prayers, love and support as he works through a current health issue. They ask everyone to please respect his privacy during this time, and continue to send your positive energy and prayers.”

Du Blonde teams up with Skunk Anansie icon Skin for raging new single ‘Next Big Thing’

Du Blonde has released a new single, ‘Next Big Thing’, which features a collaboration with Skunk Anansie singer Skin. Watch its music video below.

The track, issued on Tuesday (October 8), is the latest glimpse into the singer-songwriter’s upcoming fourth album ‘Sniff More Gritty’, set for release on November 15 via Daemon TV, after a series of single releases following August’s ‘TV Star’. In the song, backed by fuzzy alt-rock fury, Du Blonde sings lyrics pulled from a laundry list of unrequested “words of advice” they’ve received through their career.

Skin joins Du Blonde in its catchy chorus, where they sing: “Where you going? / What about the rest of us? / Hey, where you going? / What about the rest of us?“, as if conjuring the voices that once accosted them. The music video, directed by Ericka Clevenger, sees Du Blonde possessing several onscreen personas – a violent abducter, a nun, and a demon.

“‘Next Big Thing’ is the result of my first 15 years in the music industry, from audience members shouting ‘Take your top off!’ during my first shows at 15, to label executives telling me to be less ‘sensitive’ about being sexually harassed,” Du Blonde reveals in a press statement.

“Every line in the song is something that has been personally said to me by folks in the industry, but speak to almost any woman or femme-presenting musician and they will have stories to match.”

They also share how Skin had been an influence not just on them, but on “kids like me in the 90s” for being “outspoken about her experiences as a frontwoman of a rock band in a male-dominated field.

“It’s pioneers like her who paved the way for a lot of young girls and queer kids who didn’t necessarily see themselves on TV or global stages, and I’m so grateful to have her join me on this track.”

Other guest artists on ‘Sniff More Gritty’ include Against Me!’s Laura Jane GraceMaximo Park’s Paul Smith and The Futureheads’ Ross Millard.
