Ana Matronic explains absence from Scissor Sisters reunion tour

Ana Matronic has shared a statement on her absence from Scissor Sisters‘ upcoming UK comeback tour.

The iconic New York pop-rock band announced their UK reunion tour today (October 31), where they will play their self-titled 2004 debut in full in honour of its 20th anniversary.

Founding members Jake Shears, Babydaddy, and guitarist/bassist Del Marquis are set to perform together for the first time in over a decade. However, Ana Matronic (who also founded the band) was noticeably absent from the lineup; Scissor Sisters have said they would “honour” the vocalist on their upcoming tour.

Speaking about her decision to not participate in the tour, Ana took to social media to write: “People familiar with my story and career arc will know that in the heart of this Showgirl lies a giant Nerd. In the past decade my Nerd self has taken the wheel and is now driving my career.”

“I am currently finishing production on the first season of my history podcast Good Time Sallies which has grown into several long-term research & writing projects,” she continued. “With contracts signed and schedules agreed on these commitments, the timing of a Scissor reunion does not allow me to join my former bandmates on this tour.”

“I wish the band and our fans all the best – I will be there in spirit to kiki with you!”

Ana previously teased her history podcast on Instagram, writing that the podcast would focus on “pleasure and its principal players”. Good Time Sallies was then hinted to launch this month.

Meanwhile, Scissor Sisters began teasing their return earlier this week when fans spotted the band logo emblazoned on Manchester’s Co-Op Arena. The band have not released any new albums since they went on an indefinite hiatus after 2012’s ‘Magic Hour’, though they released charity single ‘Swerlk’ in 2017.

Previously, frontman Shears told NME in 2021 that “I really want to make another Scissors record”, adding: “I think everybody would need to want to do it. I don’t wanna twist anybody’s arm – that would just be no fun.”

However, the reunion tour comes as a surprise, as Shears also told NME at the time that an anniversary tour was not on the cards: “I don’t think I would be into that. I would want to make new music.”

Since Scissor Sisters went on a break, Shears has released two solo albums, his self-titled 2018 debut and 2022’s ‘Last Man Dancing‘.
