It was a morning filled with memories, surprise moments and heartfelt reflections as Take That sat down with Scott Mills on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show today. Arriving alongside the launch of their new Netflix documentary, Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald spent an hour looking back over 35 years in pop and hinting at what could lie ahead for the group.
The Return of Robbie?
For many listeners, the standout moment came when Gary Barlow addressed Robbie Williams’ recent chart-topping number one album. Asked whether a full reunion could ever happen, Gary sounded quietly confident:
“Listen, at some point it’s going to happen in the future... you never know what’s around the corner. As this documentary shows, we all started out at the same place. It’s wonderful, it really is.”
A New Album and Tour Prep
The band also revealed that there is more on the way beyond the current "INDI" era, confirming that a brand new album is planned for release toward the end of 2025. With that in mind, preparations are already under way for their Circus Live Tour. Each member has taken a different approach to getting tour ready, with Gary quietly clocking up time on an exercise bike, Howard focusing on Pilates, and Mark investing in a unicycle to sharpen his skills for the show’s more theatrical moments.
Reopening the "Helpline"
In a throwback to the 1996 split that left fans heartbroken, Scott Mills reopened the Take That Helpline. The band spoke to callers including Emma from Lowestoft, who remembered trying to ring the original line while recovering from surgery. In a moment that echoed the spirit of the "Progress" era, the group invited her to join them as their guest at an upcoming London date.
Howard Donald reflected emotionally on that period, admitting the breakup felt like "his world had ended," as he went from global pop stardom back to working as a vehicle painter within a matter of months.
The show wrapped up on a joyful note with the studio marking Mark Owen’s birthday by bringing out a Colin the Caterpillar cake, a fitting touch given that his mother once worked at the Oldham bakery where the iconic cakes were made.
