Shirley Manson has thrown her support behind Lana Del Rey, saying she should be the artist to deliver the next James Bond theme.
The Born to Die singer was previously linked to the franchise after submitting a song for 2015’s Spectre, though the final theme instead went to Sam Smith with Writing’s on the Wall.
Shirley, whose band Garbage recorded The World is Not Enough for the Pierce Brosnan led 007 film of the same name, feels Lana is perfectly suited to the role.
Speaking to Metro, she said: "I still don’t understand why they haven’t asked Lana Del Rey."
She went on to add: "She’s glamorous, she’s dangerous, and she’s super intelligent.
"She’s one of the world’s greatest songwriters."
The Video Games singer has previously explained that she wrote her song 24 from her 2015 album Honeymoon specifically with the Daniel Craig era Bond film in mind.
When questioned by the BBC at The Ivors 2024 about why she has yet to land a Bond theme, she replied: “I mean, how has that not happened?”
Reflecting on the track she submitted, she added: “I wrote that for them."
The Cinnamon Girl artist also joked that she still slips into “my little Nancy Sinatra thing every now and then and just pretend it’s the title track.”
Elsewhere, Oasis were recently tipped as possible contenders to write the theme for the next 007 film, following Amazon MGM Studios taking control of the franchise.
Addressing the rumours during an appearance on talkSPORT, Noel Gallagher appeared to brush off the idea.
He said: “This James Bond thing? What, Oasis? Nah.”
When asked if he would be tempted should the opportunity arise, he replied: “What for Oasis to do it? Absolutely. Of course. It would be an absolute honour, and I think those kind of things should be done by Brits not Yanks.”
He stressed that no approach had been made, adding jokingly: “Nah nah nah. I’ll play a villain. I’ll play a Mancunian villain.”
Noel has previously revealed that he has experimented with writing songs he feels could work within the Bond universe.
Speaking to NME, he said he revisited one of those tracks and felt it would make "a great Bond theme".
