Olivia Rodrigo’s love for The White Stripes led her to spend thousands on a dress worn by Meg White.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 23 year old singer admitted paying an "exorbitant amount of money" for the vintage white Gunne Sax dress. Meg, 51, wore it on the cover of Elephant, the 2003 album she recorded with bandmate and former husband Jack White, also 51.
Olivia had intended to wear her purchase at her first nonprofit Daisy Chain Fields festival in August. However, she changed her mind because the weather at Great Park in Irvine, California, was "too f****** hot".
The Drivers License singer joked: "Maybe if I do Daisy Chain in the winter, I can wear it."
The dress appeared in Julien’s Music Icons auction in May with an estimated value of $4,000 to $6,000. The winning bid reached $25,600.
It came from the personal collection of musician Tracee Mae Miller, a friend of both Meg and Jack.
Explaining the dress’s history, the auction house said: "For various photo shoots during that time, Miller shared that she and Meg would pull items from their own closets to style themselves.
"For this shoot, Miller pulled the dress directly from her closet for Meg to wear. The bodice of the dress was tailored by Miller’s mom to fit her, and the dress luckily ended up fitting Meg perfectly as well."
A fan of The White Stripes for years, Olivia has also become close friends with Jack since their first meeting in 2022.
In April, the Drop Dead singer shared that Jack had placed a message backstage ahead of her hosting appearance on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. His note read: "Kill it kid."
Discussing their friendship with The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon, 52, Olivia said: "I love Jack White. He’s, like, my hero.
"He’s the coolest guy ever. Wonderful person. Always stands up for what’s right … He sent me a text, and he’s like, 'Look up!' Like, 'Keep your head up. You’re gonna find something.'"
Meg praised Olivia in 2022, saying: "She’s very cool, very real, and very much a lover of music. She’s also introducing another set of youth to the love of vinyl records as well.
"Respect."
Justin Timberlake has offered a playful apology for his beatboxing days.
The singer, 45, regularly showed off his vocal percussion while performing with NSYNC in the early 2000s. After a video poking fun at those moments went viral, he joined in with a humorous response.
Taking to Instagram, Hannah Young said: "We don’t talk about Justin Timberlake beatboxing enough. Because there was a moment in time where that man would be in the middle of a song and just boots and cats and boots and cats.
"Nobody questioned it. Nobody said ‘Justin, you know? We have drums. This is a professional recording studio. There are instruments available to you.’
"And we liked it. That’s what I need us to sit with. We were watching that man make drum noises with his mouth, like, ‘oh, my god, what can’t he do?’"
Fans filled the comments with their reactions before Justin added his own lighthearted take.
Laughing at his past musical choices, he wrote: "I often look back on that time as well. I still haven’t come up with any answers. I don’t know how to apologize enough for whatever those ambitions were. Too many boots. Too many cats. I hope you can forgive me. Also, I can’t promise I won’t do it again. God help us all."
Justin has also previously recalled how producer Timbaland used beatboxing to introduce the melody for Cry Me A River, his 2002 single, before the pair recorded it.
He said the studio session remained clear in his mind, including how quickly the song took shape.
Speaking on Hot Ones, Justin, who found fame with NSYNC before building a successful solo career, said: "The crazy thing about Cry Me A River was he beat-boxed it first. I came into the studio and I was like less than thrilled and I think he saw my mood and he just started, like, [beat-boxing].
"Four hours later it was, like, written and recorded and then we started working on post-production."
